Point Roberts offers a truly unique vacation venue in the heart of Boundary Bay, off the western coast of Washington. Physically, Point Roberts is not connected to the state, but rather part of British Columbia that just hangs over the 49th parallel. These five square miles of American soil, surrounded by water on three sides and Canada on the fourth, provide a wonderful piece of heaven for travelers. Make sure to plan a trip to the Orca Center, where you will have a first rate opportunity for some whale watching, depending on the season. In the summer months, members of three local pods frequently pass close by the shores. You may also have the opportunity to see the thriving resident Bald Eagles. Lighthouse Park Beach is a popular attraction for vacationers, perfect for dog walking, sunset photography, and boat or kayak launching. Monument Park offers travelers a 951-foot hiking trail with five switchbacks. It descends 135 feet to the beach, a seven percent grade that is just slightly steeper than some grades on the interstate highways.
