There's something about a Minnesota cabin vacation that feels so right. Perhaps it's because Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes. Maybe it's because of its unrelentingly friendly locals. Or it's because it has a collection of the absolute BEST cabin resorts in the country. Northern Minnesota is where a vast majority of these lie, away from the Twin Cities and the helter-skelter life that accompanies them. These are the absolute best of those resorts, places you'll go to relax, unwind and have some good old-fashioned lake fun.

Take it from us- there's only one way you can enjoy beautiful Lake Birch more than via a shoreline cabin- on a houseboat!

Technically, all the houseboats have "cabins", so they totally belong on this list! Named Minnesota Resort of the year in 1998 and 2012 by the Minnesota Resort Association, grab a fishing rod, swimsuit, and gang of family or friends and heat to Timber Bay Lodge! From your mobile accommodation you can fish, swim, or simply enjoy the beautiful weather. On shore you can go on a hike through the Norway Pine forests or bike to Babbitt on one of the many paved trails (bicycles are available at the resort at no charge). Afterwards, return to a rustic cabin and enjoy some stargazing from the porch. Whatever floats your boat, Timber Bay is happy to accommodate.
