Like a rosy lantern leading the way forward, you find yourself at Bent Creek Lodge, tucked away in a forested triangle between the Blue Ridge Parkway and the French Broad River just below Asheville. Hike secluded trails out your bedroom door; within a half mile you can start your drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, visit the North Carolina Arboretum, or launch a canoe on the French Broad River to float by the Biltmore Estate. Yet you’re only a short drive to the fine restaurants, galleries, and shops in downtown Asheville.

Boat private trout waters for trophy-sized fish with Davidson River Outfitters, or go on a family whitewater adventure from the Nantahala Outdoor Center, one of the originators of whitewater rafting taking trips on the French Broad, among others.
