Maples was born only a few miles from the waters of the Little River, and has brought a dedication to this course that no other architect could. Novelist James Boyd and his brother, Jackson, started the Moore County Hounds in the early 1920s, bringing the tradition of the private hunt to the Sandhills. It continues to this day. Acres and acres of scenic areas around the Town of Southern Pines boast horse farms and riding trails.
