The Beekman Arms has a rich history that dates all the way back to 1704, when William Traphagen created a traveler's inn at the town crossroads. In 1766, The Beekman Arms, named after the Beekman family, was added to the original tavern. During the last third of the 18th century, the building was known as the Bogardus Tavern and was at the frontlines of the American Revolution. The Fourth Regiment of the Continental Army performed drills on the front lawn, and the likes of George Washington and Alexander Hamilton stayed here throughout the Revolutionay War. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was also a frequent guest at the Beekman Arms, concluding his presidental campaigns on the hotel's front porch. Through most of the 20th century, the hotel was a popular site of both social and civic life in Rhinebeck. In the 1980s, then owner Charles LaForge added the greenhouse and the nearby Delamater Inn to the property. Today, the Beekman Arms includes all of this beautiful space and welcomes guests from across the world to discover its rich history.
