The Woods Inn was originally built by Fred Hess back in 1894 when it was called the Hess Camp. The camp was eventually bought in 1900 by Philo Wood, who renamed the property The Wood Hotel. For 20 years, The Wood Hotel underwent expansions and changes and welcomed a variety of guests who were looking for a place to call home during their Adirondack adventures. The hotel changed hands again in 1946, when Air Force First Lieutenant, William Dunay, purchased the hotel, and it remained open until the 1980s. After Dunay's death, contents of the hotel were auctioned off, and an overwhelming number of guests who had stayed at the hotel in the past expressed their interests in puchasing a piece of it. For years the empty property remained while the Dunay family waited for buyers interested in restoring the hotel and reopening it, which didn't happen until 2003 when the hotel was purchased by Joedda McClain and Jay Latterman and renovated before it was reopened in 2004 as The Woods Inn. Today the inn is under different owners but still remains open year-round to welcome travelers to enjoy a relaxing Adirondacks getaway.
