The Hotel Saugatuck has a rich history dating back to its creation in 1865 when it was originally used as an ice house for the Clipson Brewery. The inn changed hands and uses over the course of the following years, becoming a boat building factory and later a boarding house. In 1922, the property was transformed into the Twin Gables Hotel & Restaurant by Tom Carey, a vaudeville banjo player. During the 1920s Prohibition, gangsters from Al Capone's gang used to stop by the hotel and legend has it that there's still a bullet hole in the wall of the bar that was made by one of Capone's men! Today, the inn is listed under Michigan's Historic Landmarks and welcomes a variety of travelers from across the country to discover its history and the area's beautiful surroundings!
