Exterior view of Clair Tappaan Lodge.

At the top of Donner Pass amidst the Sierra Nevada of California rests the rustic mountain escape Clair Tappaan Lodge. The lodge was built by Sierra Club volunteers in the 1930s and serves as a home base for year-round recreation. This area receives the highest average snowfall of the entire Sierra Nevada range, making the lodge a favorite for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Hearty cooked meals are prepared each day for guests and served family-style in the lodge's large dining room.
