Shangri-La Caribe, on the outskirts of the village of Playa del Carmen, offers a rustic flavor with a tone of remoteness. A thatch roofed community with a variety of room styles is clustered right on the beach. The rooms are neatly and attractively furnished with either a king or two double beds, private bath and ceiling fans. Lovely touches of Mexican tile and woodwork abound. Daily maid service is, of course, provided and there's an ample supply of purified bottled water in each room.
