Mangalore, once a rustic village, now a spreading city, on the Western Coast of Southern India, reaching into the Arabian Sea. A City known for it's hospitality coffee, nuts, pepper and cloth. The tradition of the people is a strong will to resist change. Early trade was with Persian and Arab merchants, the Portuguese and the Nayaka princes fought many a battle, later Haidar Ali made Mangalore his base for ship building, and there was a great resistance when Tippu Sultan took over from his father. Famous for its Ganesh Bidis, tobacco leaf dried and tied with a cotton thread.
