Discover a Mountain of Fun at Crystal Mountain’s Spring Fling Weekend

Cap off the ski season at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville, Michigan during its annual Spring Fling Weekend on March 15 and 16. Bring the entire family to this two-day celebration packed with great food, great music, and lots of fun on the hill for everyone. And, to make the event even more exciting, the resort is teaming up with Monster Energy.

"The annual Spring Fling Weekend will be the perfect way to celebrate a great year," Crystal Mountain Public Relations Manager Tom Kramer said. “And, with Monster Energy on board, the level of fun to be had will be multiplied by a thousand.”

The fun starts, of course, on the mountain itself. The ever-popular Slush Cup invites participants to ski or ride through a giant pit of icy slush. Scores are based on style, performance, and landing, and the event is as much fun for the audience as it is for those competing.

Visitors ages eight and up are invited to participate in the Cardboard Classic, a competition of sleds made entirely of cardboard and duct tape. Build and decorate your sled ahead of time, then bring it to the mountain and race down the slopes. Don’t just worry about speed, though; after the race, the cardboard sleds will also be judged on creativity.

If, after the Cardboard Classic, you still want to race, you can speed down the slopes in a kayak.  Then, keep your feet planted on the ground and compete in the hula hoop contest, or simply sit back and enjoy the fun of a luau with drinks and live entertainment.

However, there’s even more in store for the Spring Fling Weekend than the activities on the slopes.

“We're excited to be able to host the Teddy Knape Film Festival at the same time as the Spring Fling Weekend. It's a great combination of on and off mountain fun for the whole family,” Kramer said.

This annual film festival was started in 2006 in memory of Edward “Teddy” Knape, a ski enthusiast who got his start on Crystal Mountain’s slopes. It celebrates ski films by amateur and professional filmmakers alike and spreads Knape’s enthusiasm for skiing.

Whether you’re a ski enthusiast, want to build a cardboard sled with your family, or wish to cheer on your fellow guests as they kayak down the snowy slopes, there is fun for everyone at Crystal Mountain’s Spring Fling Weekend.
